The One Church Covenant Resolution
The One Church Covenant resolution that was presented on the final day of the conference passed with 80 percent of clergy and laity in approval. Rev. Ann Willet presented it along with Dr. Tommy Brumett, the senior pastor at FUMC McKinney.
The resolution was guided by the language of the covenant, which essentially says we aspire to operate as one church, allowing churches to minister in a variety of contexts. The passage of this doesn’t change the Book of Discipline – it just expresses a hope that we can live in the same church yet allow space for opposing viewpoints. The vote on this resolution showed the positions of clergy and laity around the North Texas Conference.
